Bengaluru, Mar 19: The Janata Dal (Secular) today issued a whip to all its MLAs in Karnataka to vote for the party candidate B M Farookh in the March 23 biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from the legislative assemblies.

The whip was issued by JD(S) Karnataka unit chief H D Kumaraswamy to 30 party MLAs and 7 rebel MLAs who were already suspended by the party. It also directed the party MLAs to show the ballot to the party’s authorised agent before casting it.
Meanwhile, JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda has said that the seven suspended MLAs will have to vote in favour of the party in the RS polls as the party issued a whip.
"Neither the JD(S) expelled the seven rebel MLAs, nor have the legislators resigned their membership. As a result, they can't defy the party whip," Gowda said.
Gowda also said that though his party lacked the required numbers, it had decided to field a candidate. "We don't have the numbers. We have requested the Independent MLAs to support our candidate. The JD(S) has not approached any national party seeking support," he claimed.
