Mangaluru, Jun 14: The Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) has the first and second rank in Dakshina Kannada district in the prestigious entrance examination JEE Advanced 2018. Navaneesha is the first rank holder in district (AIR- 406) and Shreesha G Bhat is the second rank holder (AIR-851).
JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced are the two stages involved with the selection process of Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). Out of around 10.44 lakh students who appeared for JEE-main this year, around 2.3 lakh students were selected to write JEE-advanced 2018. Among them 1.55 lakh wrote the exam on May 20, and 18,138 students have qualified in all categories.
The merit list of qualified candidates is one third compared to last year. The drop in the number of qualified students is from 50,455 last year to 18,138. The minimum subject-wise score is 12 for general category with an aggregate of 126 and merely 8,664 candidates made the cut in general category as compared to 23,390 last year.
Performance in this examination forms the basis for admission into bachelors, integrated masters, and dual degree programmes (entry at 10+2 level) in the IITs and Indian School of Mines (ISM). A total of 11,279 seats are available in 23 IIT’s and ISM.
Apart from IIT’s, IISc Bangalore, the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER);Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli; Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, Visakhapatnam; and the Indian Institute of space science and technology, Thiruvananthapuram, will also admit students based on their scores in the JEE (Advanced).
