Bengaluru, Nov 5: Amid severe protests from BJP and other right wing organisations, the Karnataka Government has determined to continue celebration of Tipu Jayanthi, the birth anniversary of warrior king and it decided to shift the celebration venue in the city from Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha the State Secretariat to Ravindra Kalakshetra, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara said today.
Addressing a press conference on Monday after a meeting with top Police officials to discuss security arrangements in Vidhana Soudha, he said in view of security reasons the Tipu Jayanthi Celebration on November 10 had been shifted but the State Government will go ahead holding the function across the state despite opposition.
He said that the Tipu Jayanthi celebration will be held in all the District Headquarters and necessary instructions were issued to District Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police officer to celebrate the event ensuring proper security to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the BJP today warned of waging an agitation against Tipu Jayanti and asked the government to honour people’s sentiments and drop such celebrations.
In a strongly worded statement, BJP Karnataka Unit president B S Yeddyurappa, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, said the State government should “honour people’s sentiments and drop Tipu Jayanti”.
