Bengaluru Feb 28: The state government will launch Universal Health Coverage scheme which intends to bring all the health schemes under a single umbrella on March 1.
"The scheme will be launched on Thursday by chief minister," said Ajay seth, additional chief secretary, department of health and family welfare.
He said that the scheme will start in 10 hospitals across the state, out of which three are in Bengaluru. This will be expanded later to all the government hospitals across the state.
He said that a nearest public health facility will issue the Universal health coverage card when a person approaches the facility. This can be used in future. "We are not currently trying to follow any particular model to issue the card," he added.
Under the scheme, the entire population of the state will be brought under the health scheme irrespective of their income. According to the scheme, there will be no cap on the expenditure of treatment incurred by any patient in government hospitals.
Seth said that the details of the 10 hospitals in the state where the initial implementation of the scheme will take place will be revealed soon.
On the delay in launching the scheme, which was scheduled in November 2017, he said that the process and implementation of the scheme required time.
Universal Health Coverage will take into consideration 1.4 crore households in the state. According to the scheme, close to 1,000 surgical procedures under secondary care can be availed of free of cost in government facilities. Around 516 complicated secondary procedures that may be referred to private hospitals will also be free for Category A (priority and deprived households), while those falling under Category B will get 30% rebate. This applies to tertiary care as well.
