Padubidri, Jul 23: Demanding better facilities to the 17 Koraga families whose land was acquired by Suzlon Energy Ltd in Padubidri, a mass jatha and protest was held in front of the Padubidri gram panchayat office here on Tuesday.
Members of the Koraga community along with the local units of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, DYFI and like-minded organisations took part in the mass jatha that began from Ambedkar Colony near Suzlon Energy Ltd to the gram panchayat office premises that undertook a demonstration at the venue.
The demonstrators protested against the anti-Dalit policies of Suzlon company which failed to address the requirements of the displaced families. They demanded a better alternative for the displaced families.
The protestors also demanded that a probe should be conducted on the land irregularities in the additional land acquired by Suzlon Energy Ltd, and the additional land should be returned to the Koragas.
Addressing the protestors, Dalit leader Lolaksha urged that the concerned departmental officials and elected representatives should immediately provide land to the displaced families where they were currently residing.
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla lashed out against Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje and minister Vinaykumar Sorake and warned of intense struggle if the district administration failed to construct permanent houses for the displaced families.
District president of Janapara Vedike Shriram Divana, Padubidri gram panchayat president Vijaya M Ameen and others spoke on the occasion.
