Mangalore, Oct 3: Although the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act (1964) is in effect in the state, the cattle trafficking and slaughter is steadily gaining momentum. Officials from the revenue, animal husbandry, transport and home departments should work effectively to put a complete stop on this, said chariman of Karnataka State Go Seva Ayog M B Puranik.

Alleging that those cattle left open to graze and those tied in their stalls were being stolen and illegally trafficked, Mr Puranik urged the farmers should immediately be given protection from cattle-thieves. The thieves are illegally trafficking cattle from Karnataka to Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The government and the public should lend their support and protection to the'go (cow) shaale' run by organisations in the state, he said.
Members of the commission Manjunath Swamy was present on the occasion.
