
Mangalore, Mar 10: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have again thwarted attempt of smuggling of gold on Monday.
They seized four gold pieces, totally weighing 1 kilogram and 130 grams and valued at Rs.30,60,398 and it was concealed in an Air Compressor.
Passenger named Muhammad Kunhi Cheeri Kundu, 39, a resident of Cheeri Kundu House, Cheruvathur, Kaidakkad in Kasaragod arrived at Mangalore International Airport at 5.30 a.m. by Jet Airways fight 9W531 from Dubai.
He was arrested later and produced before the Magistrate. Further investigation is under progress.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport and were led by B Prabhakara Poojary, Superintendent along with Superintendents Lionel Fernandes, Sendhil Murugan, B.A.Kariappa, H.G.Yogesh and Inspectors G.Kumaraswamy, and Virender Kumar and Hawaldar K.S. Ravindra.
Further the Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore, D.Purushotham expressed his deep concern regarding the increasing trends in smuggling and directed the officers to intensify the vigilance and surveillance and crack the attempts made by the unscrupulous elements who are indulging in these activities.
