Mangaluru, May 12: Parents of students studying in Jnanadeep High School and P U College, run by Sooraj Educational and Charitable Trust in Mudipu, near here, gheraoed the school building alleging that the school management had begun demanding higher fees from them.
Nearly a hundred members gathered in front of the school and opposed the sudden hike in school fees by Rs 5,000 for the upcoming academic year.
Although the parents had been notified of this hike earlier, the parents were not willing to pay the increased amount and demanded the school management to revert the fees back to its previous amount.
Soon after, the chairman of the school Manjunath Revankar arrived at the scene and tried to calm the anxious parents, while justifying the hike in school fees. He also informed that they were free to opt for a different school for their children after obtaining their transfer certificate from the school.
However, the crowd of parents have alleged that the sudden hike in school fees was to take off the burden of expenses incurred by the school while constructing the new pre-university college building.
