Manipal, Jul 19: A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall has created a deadly gorge at the pavement in front of Inox Cinemas in Manipal, the university town of Udupi district.
The cinemagoers and local residents screamed in fear when the land caved in before their eyes. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any reported loss of life or injuries.
Soon after the landslide, people who had entered the multiplex to watch movies came out in fear. It is learnt that the multiplex management cancelled the shows halfway through and refunded the money to the audience.
Inox Cinemas, a unit of Central Cinemas, is located on the Kundelkadu stretch on the Udupi-Manipal Road. The building was constructed after felling dozens of trees at the spot.
