Mangalore, May 19: The Karnataka Komu Souhardha Vedike (KKSV) has termed the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi a fascist and a threat to democracy.

KKSV State secretary K L Ashok told media persons that corporate companies and a section of the media had created a false image about Modi with the help of lies.

“While we do not oppose Modi's electoral win, he should function as per the values and guidelines of the Constitution of India. If he doesn't, then we will hold protests across the State,” he said.

The KKSV members said a State committee meeting would be held on June 1 to discuss the issue and take suitable action.

NDA must fulfill national values, says PFI

Popular Front of India president K M Shareef demanded that the new NDA government discharge its Constitutional responsibility of fulfilling national values such as justice, liberty and equality among others.

“Modi is hiding his divisive and majoritarian politics inspired by the Hindutava ideology,” he alleged. “The BJP has turned a parliamentary election into a presidential election, which will harm the country in the long run,” he added.

Outcome of division among secular parties, says JIH

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has termed the results of Lok Sabha election as unexpected and an outcome of disunity, division and mutual clashes among the secular parties and their leaders.

Mr Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of JIH said the results are a big challenge to secular India, its secular constitution and atmosphere of love and communal harmony. But we hope that the overwhelming majority of people who support positive traditions and values will leave no stone unturned to make the new government continue playing the positive and constructive role for the service of the country.

Mr Nusrat Ali said some points in BJP's election manifesto and statements of its leaders have created apprehensions and doubts about its future course of action. However, we hope the new government and its leaders, in the larger interest of the country, will follow Raj Dharma and work for justice and equality. They will take effective steps to check poverty, inflation, corruption and immorality. Rather than protecting the interests of imperialist forces and capitalist system, they will work for the interests of the country and its people.

Mr Ali expressed deep concern over the fact that it is the first parliamentary election in the history of Independent India that representation of 20-crore Muslim population has slipped down to the worst level. It is feared this will further lessen opportunities for them to protect their constitutional rights, get justice and present their viewpoint on national issues in parliament. The situation demands, Mr. Ali said, that leaders of Muslim organisations and eminent personalities of the community organise themselves, guide the Millat in the changed condition and ask it to execute its responsibilities while posing complete faith in Allah.

Udupi: A 40-year-old NRI from Udupi has reportedly lost more than Rs 12.25 lakh in an online investment scam operated through Telegram.

According to a complaint filed at the CEN police station, Leo Jerome Mendonsa, who has been working in Dubai for the past 15 years in computer accessories sales, maintains NRI accounts in Karkala and Nitte.

On November 12, 2025, Mendonsa was added to a Telegram group called Instaflow Earnings by unknown individuals. Users identified as Priya and Dipannita persuaded him to invest in “Revenue Tasks.” Initially, Mendonsa transferred Rs 1,100 multiple times and received the promised returns, encouraging him to continue.

On November 14, another user, Nishmitha Shetty, directed him to register on a website, digitvisionuoce.cc, and invest Rs 4 lakh in various shares. Over the next few days, he made multiple transfers totaling Rs 12,25,000, including Rs 50,000 via Google Pay, believing the scheme was legitimate.

After receiving the money, the alleged handlers stopped responding, and neither the invested amount nor the promised profits were returned.

The CEN police have registered a case under Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are ongoing.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Educational institutions in Mangaluru that rely on the popular Mangala Stadium for their annual sports events are bracing for an inconvenience as the city's key sporting venue is set to close its gates for a significant upgrade. The stadium is expected to be unavailable for approximately two months starting from January 15, 2026.

The closure is necessitated by a proposed overhaul of the stadium's facilities, with a special focus on upgrading the synthetic track. Pradeep Dsouza, Assistant Director of the District of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES), Dakshina Kannada, confirmed the development.

"Experts have visited the stadium, conducted a thorough inspection, and have given the go-ahead for a complete makeover," Dsouza stated. "Funds have been allocated for the project, and we are currently awaiting the final green signal from state officials to commence the work. We anticipate that the work will likely begin in the second week of January. Consequently, we have stopped renting out the stadium to colleges and other organizations in preparation for the upgrade."

The timing presents a logistical challenge for colleges, as many schools have already concluded their sports meets.

"Colleges will now be organizing their events and will need to find alternative locations to host their sports meets," Dsouza added. He suggested a few potential venues, including the Dakshina Kannada police ground, University College grounds, Panambur grounds, Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, and the Mangalore University sports grounds in Konaje.

However, many institutions note that finding a comparable venue will be difficult. While the DK police ground and University College grounds are closer to the city center, they do not possess the extensive facilities and infrastructure offered by Mangala Stadium.

Dr. P Dayananda Pai - P Satisha Govt First Grade College, Carstreet, is one such institution dependent on the stadium. Principal Jayakar Bhandary expressed hope for a swift completion of the work. "We expect the work to be completed at the earliest. If not, we will be forced to look for other venues to host the sports day for our students," Bhandary said, highlighting the pressing need for the city's main sporting facility.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
