Mangaluru, Sept 24: A gang of miscreants attempted to murder a local youth at Gantalkatte under the limits of Moodbidri police station on the outskirts of the city today.
According to sources, around eight persons came to the eatery run by Imtiyaz (32) at a complex belonging to Gantalkatte mosque early in the morning posing as customers.
“They placed order for eight cups of tea. When Imtiyaz went to prepare the tea, they attacked him with lethal weapons,” a source said.
In spite of suffering severe injuries to his head and hand, Imtiyaz escaped through the back door of the eatery and entered a house.
He was later rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. It is learnt that he is in ICU and out of danger.
The gang also attacked another person who tried to rescue Imtiyaz in the eatery. He is also undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Moodbidri police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Imtiyaz is one of the accused in the murder case of Prashant Poojary, a Bajrang Dal activist. Prashant Poojary was hacked to death in Moodbidri by six assailants on 9 October 2015.
