Managaluru, May 11:
Naveed Khan from Puttige, Moodbidri had gone to attend marriage at Saud Hall, Shirva on May 5, when John Anthony D’Souza stabbed him in the stomach.
A day after the incident D’Souza was arrested by the jurisdictional Kaup police. He was booked under Sections 302, 307 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
The stabbing had occurred when Naveen Khan was about to return from the wedding function at around 3 p.m.
A scuffle erupted between Anthony John D’Souza and one Leo D’Mello after their vehicles got stuck due to lack of space near the entrance gate of the wedding hall.
When the fight worsened a few people including Naveed Khan rushed to spot and tried to prevent the duo from fighting. However, D’Souza stabbed Naveed Khan.
He was immediately taken to a hospital in Manipal and later shifted to another private hospital in Mangaluru. After battling for life for five days Naveed Khan breathed his last on Sunday, May 10, night. The body was handed over to the family members on Monday.
Family members of the victim have demanded capital punishment for D’Souza, who brutally stabbed a person for trying to prevent a crime.
Demanding justice, Wahid Khan, brother of Naveed Khan, said that the entire family was in shock following latter’s murder. “Stringent action should be taken against the culprit. He should be hanged,” he said.
