Mangalore, Sep 25: To provide good healthcare facilities for patients suffering from mental disorders in the state, the state government has decided to launch two healthcare schemes - Manasa Adhara and Manochetana, which will be launched state-wide on October 9, informed Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the two schemes would be launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a state-level programme at Vidhana Soudha on October 9.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that under the'Manasa Adhara' scheme, treatment and day-care centres for mentally-ill patients would be opened in all districts in the state. Under the'Manochetana' scheme, free treatment will be provided to patients with mental disorders in district government hospitals and primary health centres every Tuesday.
œDue to the rising number of suicides in the state, particularly in the state capital Bangalore, a special programme will be held to promote mental fortitude in citizens, he said.
Strict action on wrong-doers
Mr Khader informed that the police department was directed to take strict action against anti-social elements who tried to disrupt peace in Mangalore (erstwhile Ullal) assembly constituency, irrespective of their caste or religion. There is no question of protecting those who are in the wrong, he said, adding that he had discussed the matter with the concerned ACP in this regard.
He also informed that the road repairs on all roads including Kotekar-Deralakatte and Mudipu-Ira stretch in Mangalore constituency would be undertaken in 15 days.
Prior to the press conference, the minister interacted with members of the public at Circuit House in the city and heard their grievances.
