Mangaluru, Aug 28: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada recorded highest single-day spike of 448 covid-19 cases in past 24 hours, according to the district health bulletin.
Among the new cases, 273 are from Mangaluru taluk, 103 from Bantwal, 27 from Puttur, 18 from Belthangady, 17 from Sullia, and 10 from other districts.
Out of the 448 cases, 149 persons are suffering from an influenza-like illness (ILI), 17 persons are suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and 66 persons had contracted the diseases from primary contacts. The health officials are tracing the contacts of 215 others.
So far 11837 positive cases have been reported in the district and 343 of them passed away. There are 2521 active cases in the district currently.
