Mangaluru, Feb 18: Income tax (I-T) department sleuths continued their searches on Thursday (February 18) at the four medical institutions.
Over 250 I-T sleuths are involved in the search operations that started yesterday (February 17) morning. The I-T sleuths are accompanied by Enforcement Directorate officials.
Search operations are going on at residences, offices and hospitals belonging to the owners of the Yenepoya Medical College, AJ Hospital, Srinivas hospital/college and Kanachur Hospital in the city.
Officials have so far formally not divulged any information on the raids. However, sources privy to the raids said that the officials have seized millions of rupees in cash and documents.
The investigation wing officials of the income tax department launched a major crackdown on medical colleges across Karnataka unearthing huge volumes of cash and gold on reports of unlawful sale of MBBS seats to low-merit candidates for huge sums of money.
