Udupi, March 1: Residents of Laxmindara Nagara, near Manipal, have raised their objection to a Bar and Restaurant, proposed to come up in “Daffodi”, a residential apartment, in the second cross.

Speaking to press persons, on behalf of the residents, Dr Rajgopal Shenoy, professor of surgery, KMC Manipal, said that they learnt that excise department had issued permission to start a Bar and Restaurant in the apartment, in a residential area.

“In the second cross road, four houses of senior citizens and two houses of widows exist within just 10-20 days. If a bar is come up, it disturbs the serenity of local people, beauty of the surrounding, creates noise, violence, disturbance, nuisance, health problems'', he said.

He alleged that a Municipal councilor had been supporting the setting up a bar in the locality and as a result CMC had granted permission to the bar within three days. Officials had been neglecting their objection to the proposed bar, he added.

He said that they had sought the help of the Consumer Forum Udupi and also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Karnataka.
