Traffic smooth now on Ullal bridge

Mangalore, June 14: Four days after the embankment on southern end of Nethravati Bridge on National Highway on the outskirts of the city caved in, the heavy vehicular traffic has resumed on Tuesday.

As a result of embankment collapse on June 10, the heavy vehicles such as trucks and bullet tankers had been diverted on the highway at Mahaveera Circle to reach Thokkottu via B C Road and Konaje.

The vehicles were allowed on the bridge at night as there was less traffic. Buses and other vehicles had been allowed to ply on the bridge. Light vehicles and passenger buses used to ply on a single lane at one end of the bridge, as part of precautionary measures for last four days.

However, on Tuesday morning both heavy and light vehicles entered the long bridge from both sides. The war footing repair-work was carried out by 'Navayug' company.

P N Gawasane, Project Director, National Highways Authority of India, Mangalore, confirmed that the bridge was safe. People need not be apprehensive about the safety of the bridge, he said.

Saudi-Kerala AIE flight diverted to Mangaluru for medical emergency

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mangaluru International Airport responded to a medical emergency late on Monday night. Air India Express flight IX 522, travelling from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru Airport after a passenger in his late 30s experienced a medical emergency on board.

The Airport’s Operations Control Centre received an alert regarding the passenger’s health condition. The airport activated its emergency response protocol, mobilising the airport medical team and coordinating with stakeholders including CISF, immigration, and customs.

Upon landing, airport medical personnel attended to the passenger, assessed his condition, and arranged to shift him to a local tertiary-care hospital for further treatment. The passenger’s relatives accompanied the passenger, who incidentally received necessary medical care on board, which helped stabilise the situation.

Following the handling of the emergency, the flight departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on Tuesday.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved, and this incident reaffirms our ongoing commitment to prioritising passenger safety and readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care," the Airport spokesperson said.
