Mangalore, June 15: There are weapons hidden in Mangalore jail, said Rashid Malbari, an associate of underworld don Chotta Shakeel, who was produced before a court here on Wednesday under tight security.

Malbari, who was arrested in 2008 allegedly for having nexus with the underworld and for allegedly collecting hafta has already spent several months at Hindalga central jail in Belgaum.

He was brought to the city on Monday, June 13, was locked up in Mangalore jail until producing him before Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC).

After the trail, Malbari told media persons that he was attacked by one Sharan inside the jail at around 9:45 am today (Wednesday, June 15) despite the presence of Jail Superintendent.

Accusing the Superintendent of doing nothing to stop the attacker, Malabari repeated thrice that weapons were hidden inside Mangalore jail.

Security Concern:

As Rashid's many hearings are undertaken by JMFC here, police have to bring him to Mangalore every time amid tight security.

“It is a big responsibility on part of the police to take any underworld don from one place to another place” said one of the officials of State Reserved Police, which bears the responsibility of Malbari's security.

Malbari is expected to be taken back to Belgaum later in the day or on Thursday.
