Mangalore, Jun 28: Unable to bear the mental and physical torture meted out by her husband and his family, a newly married woman has ended her life by hanging herself at her residence at Yekkur on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Chandrika Suvarna, a 22 year old daughter of Jaya Poojary. She was married to Pravinchandra three months ago.

It is gathered that within a few days after Chandrika's marriage, her husband, mother-in-law Devika and sister-in-law Sunita began to torture her physically and mentally over trivial issues.

“Frustrated by the strange attitude of in-laws, Chandrika convinced her husband to stay separately in Yekkur. However, her husband never stopped torturing her,” said one her close relatives.

Chandrika took the extreme step at around 9:00 am when she was alone at the house. A case has been registered at Kankanady police station.
