Udupi, July 1: A 16-year-old girl was molested and sexually harassed by two drivers of a Tamil Nadu State Transport bus in which she was travelling from Sathyamangalam to Nitte near Karkala, on Wednesday night.
The girl, along with her younger brother, boarded the Coimbatore Kollur Tamil Nadu State Transport bus at Sathyamangalam on Thursday evening. The duo were proceeding to Nitte, where their parents lived.
The long route bus had two drivers, Shivakumar (37) and Ramu (40). They allegedly made sexual advances on the girl and molested her, while forcing the boy sit on another seat. The hapless girl, who could not protest, had to bear with them throughout the journey while the boy, though skeptical, was oblivious to his sister's plight.
The siblings got down at Padubidiri in the wee hours on Thursday. However, the girl had collected the mobile numbers of the drivers and noted down the bus number. On reaching home on Thursday morning, the girl informed her parents about the incident. The furious parents along with the victim and other relatives rushed to Udupi bus stand, where the bus arrived in the evening.
The girl's parents and relatives caught hold of the two drivers who were
identified by the girl and handed them over to police. Commotion prevailed in the bus stand for some time following the incident. Udupi town police sent the accused to Padubidiri police station for further investigation.
