Mangalore, August 1: Opposition leader of the Mangalore City Corporation Lancelot Pinto has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of step-motherly treatment in allotting grants to the wards represented by the Congress party.

Addressing the media-persons at the district congress office here on Monday he said that MCC has sanctioned work unilaterally without discussion at the City Planning Standing Committee. “We object this one-sided decision,” he said.

“All roads are in a bad condition across the city. Roads which require immediate attention are being ignored,” he lamented.

He pointed out that among many other cases of step motherly attitude, MCC has allotted only Rs 20 lakh for asphalting and road repair near Kadri, whereas the actual requirement was over Rs 37 lakh.

Commenting on the Public Private Partnership project of 24/7 water supply, Mr Pinto said that even this decision was taken unilaterally without providing proper information to all the members.

Some members of BJP are also against this policy of the Corporation, but they are helpless. Nobody wants to see the people suffer, he opined.

Corporator and former Mayor Ashraf accused the civic body of irresponsibility and said that even after drainage work had finished months ago, roads opened up for the work were not restored.

“We (Congress Corporators) have been requesting the corporation to allot money for our wards from the past six months, but in vain”, he complained.

Corporator Ashok regretted that the complaints against the undemocratic acts of civic body are falling on deaf ears. “They control the government in our state. Even Urban Development Authority (UDA) of Karnataka doesn't act against them,” he alleged.

Congress Corporators will submit a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner, Dr N S Channappa Gowda in this regard.

Corporators Satish Hedge, Nagendra Kumar, Suresh Babu were present among others.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
