Main accused in Abdul Salam murder case held

Kumta, September 15: The Kumta police on Thursday arrested the main accused in the murder case of Jali Gram Panchayat Vice President Abdul Salam Damda, whose body was found last Sunday at Manikatta almost a week after he went missing.

The arrested, identified as Pundalik Narayan Naik (28), a resident of Shirali village, and a lab technician at Heble in of Bhatkal taluk, was produced before the JMFC court, which remanded him to police custody for two days.

With the arrest of Pundalik, who was considered to be the main accused among the four suspects, local police have achieved a major success towards solving this mysterious case.

Police sources said that the arrested has confessed his crime. A team of police formed to investigate the case, is trying to find out what happened to the Rs 5 lakh, withdrawn by Mr Salam from a bank in Bhatkal on the day of his murder.
