Mangalore, September 17: The president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP, K. Padmanabha Kottari has come down heavily on the Centre for increasing the petrol price and termed it as “rubbing salt to the wound”.

The increase is akin to rubbing salt on the wounds of the common man, who is already reeling under the impact of high inflation, he told reporters here on Friday.

The petrol price was increased by Rs. 5 only four months ago, he said. This was the eighth increase in fuel prices since the UPA came to power, he pointed out.

While the NDA government had increased fuel prices, it had also brought it down a few times. But the UPA government had only increased the prices. He blamed the de-control of fuel prices for the trend.

He also accused the Government of not having any control over the oil companies. He also expressed concern over recent reports on limiting the number of LPG refills to four per year.

People would have to pay Rs. 750 for every additional refill. This would be a huge burden on the people, he said.

BJP local office-bearers were present at the press meet.
