Mangalore, September 22: An outing at Tannirbavi beach near here proved fatal for a student of a city college as he met watery grave on Thursday at 3.15 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Soreiwung (19), a second year BSc student of St Aloysius College.
The police said about five students of the College had gone to the beach along with Soreiwung. However, Soreiwung reportedly lost his balance and drowned as he slipped accidentally into the waters and was washed away by the strong currents.
His friends tried to rescue him but in vain.
After hours of efforts, the locals and coastguards managed to fish out Soreiwung's body. A case has been registered at Panambur police station and investigation is on.
