Udupi, October 19: Demanding an in-depth inquiry into the suicide of athlete Prithvi Amparu who had hung herself in the SMS sports hostel last month, members of Billava community staged a protest in front of DC's Office in Udupi

Speaking on the occasion Block Congress President Pramodh Madhwaraj strongly expressed his dissatisfaction over the police inquiry that is being conducted and said that the ones responsible for Prithvi's death are very influential and are hence trying to mislead the police.

“They must be even pressurising the police to not take up in depth investigation. Police should perform their duties without coming under any sort of pressure or influence. The guilty should be punished,” he demanded.

Billava community leader Harikrishna Bantwal alleged that the district police has miserably failed to handle the issue. It is really a shame on the part of police who are unable to unravel the truth.

“The case should be handed over to the COD. If the government is not agreeing to this then the protest demanding for COD inquiry will be intensified. Protest will be taken up in every street of the district. We want truth to come out and the people behind the incident should be booked. The death is not suicide rather the available evidences testify the fact that Prithvi was murdered,” he added.

The copies of Memorandum were submitted to IGP Western Range Alok Mohan, SP Dr Y S Ravikumar and DC Dr M T Reju on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishath demanded COD probe into the suspicious death of the athlete Prithvi Amparu.

Speaking to the media persons here on Tuesday VHP District President Premanand Shetty demanded that COD asked to hold the probe as the inquiry conducted till date by the district police has not yielded any results.

“Despite Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya ordering a high level inquiry, the probe into the issue has failed to give the results. Proper inquiry should be conducted and criminals involved in the death of the athlete should be punished,” he urged.
