Cop involved in brown sugar trafficking suspended

Udupi, November 11: A police constable allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking of brown sugar worth Rs 1.65 crore has been suspended following the charges in the FIR report filed by coastal security police.

SP Dr Y S Ravikumar informed Deccan Herald that Police Constable Ganesh attached to Hiriyadka police station has been placed under suspension following his alleged involvement in the Rs 1.65 brown sugar illegal trafficking case.

He has been absconding ever since the case came to light, he added.

It may be recalled that as many as four persons were arrested by coastal security police recently who seized brown sugar worth Rs 1.65 crore while it was handed over to the broker in Manipal. The conspiracy to the crime was done at Malpe shore.

The coastal police followed the miscreants from Malpe to Manipal. The case against Ganesh also has been shifted to Manipal Police station.
