Fire destroys two shops in Ullal; property worth several lakh rupees gutted

Mangalore, November 12: Property worth several lakh rupees were gutted in a major fire that engulfed two shops near city bus stand in Ullal near here in the wee hours of Saturday.

The fire, which broke out due to short circuit at around 2:00am, destroyed Bhagavati hardware shop owned by one Harish, and adjacent Janardhana general store belonging to one Pavish.

Fortunately, there was no one inside the shops during the mishap.

Fire personnel brought the fire under control by 6:00 am, after more than two hours of continuous effort.

At least five fire engines took part in the operation. A pond belonging to Ullal Dargah was used to refill the engines with water.

The fire was initially noticed by man who was moving through that way at around 2:00 am.

Based on his information the jurisdictional police rushed to the spot immediately and called the fire extinguishers too.

The police also had vacated the residents of nearby houses as a precautionary measure.
