Mangalore, November 19: Two people died on spot and three others sustained severe injuries in a ghastly road accident on National Highway 66 near NITK Gate on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.

Deceased have been identified as Ram Suvarath Dind, a driver from Gujarat and Sonu from Surat.

The tragedy occurred at around 10:00pm, when the driver and crew of a trailer lorry from Haryana were having supper at the platform after parking their vehicle on the road side. It is said that the drivers and cleaners of three other lorries had also joined them for supper.

When they were about to finish their last meal of the day, a speeding lorry trailer coming from the direction of Kudremukh rammed into the platform of the stationary lorry killing two people and injuring two others.

Eyewitness said that the rash and reckless driving was the main reason for the accident as the lorry had moved several feet away from the road. The accused driver too sustained injuries in the incident.

Police from jurisdictional Panambur station rushed to the spot and made arrangement to shift the injured to a private hospital in the city.

A case has been booked against the lorry driver.
