Mangalore, November 20: In a heart rending tragedy, a seven-month-old baby was killed and two girls were severely injured when an auto-rickshaw fell into a gorge due to the unmotorable condition of the road at Mithagode near Kurnadi village on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

Shakira, the youngest daughter of Shareef, a resident of Arekala is the victim. Her two elder sisters Shameera (5) and Ashmeera (8) have been admitted to a private hospital in Deralakatte with severe injuries.

The accident occurred when Shareef and family were returning their home by an auto-rickshaw after attending a wedding ceremony in Sajipa.

The pathetic condition of the road is said to be the main reason for the accident. According to sources, the driver lost control over his auto-rickshaw while he was trying to avoid a pothole.

Konaje police have registered a case.
