PUC girl raped and murdered in Dharmasthala

Mangalore, October 10: In a shocking incident, a teenage girl was allegedly raped and murdered by unknown miscreants in the holy town of Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district.

The victim has been identified as Sushma (name changed), a 17-year old daughter of Chandappa Gowda, a contractor residing at Pangala, 8 kms from Ujire. She was II PUC student at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College, Uijire

The injured body of the girl was found on Wednesday at around 11:00 am in bushes near her house. The girl's uniform was torn.

The villagers who noticed the girl's dead body immediately informed the police.

The victim was missing since Tuesday evening, as she did not return home after attending classes. The girl's parents had reportedly lodged a complaint with Belthangady police station after their search did not yield any result.

It is learnt that many villagers had seen the girl getting down from a bus near Shantivana Hospital at Pangala village.

From the bus stop her house is just about a kilometer's walk, but the place is totally deserted.

Police have suspected that the miscreants may have strangled the girl to death after raping her. Belthangady police are investigating the case

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal and ASP Auchet rushed to the spot. Fingerprint experts were called in and sniffer dogs also pressed into action.

Belthangady police are investigating the case and efforts are on to nab the culprits.
