Karwar, October 30: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has said that the proposal for a medical college in Karwar is pending before the State Government and it is the only proposal from the district.
Addressing presspersons in Karwar on Monday after inaugurating the district Ranga Mandira (auditorium), Mr. Kageri said that while sanctioning a medical college some technical points had to be considered by the Government. Karwar had the added advantage of a hospital with 450 beds and had land to set up the college, he said.
Mr. Kageri said that he had asked for officials of the National Highway Department, Public Works Department and Zilla Panchayat to fill the potholes on roads. He said that the National Highway between Honnavar and Bhatkal were in very bad condition and it should be repaired immediately. Mr. Kageri asserted that the developmental works in the district had achieved new momentum in the district in last four years and there was no dearth of funds for development.
After the inauguration of the Ranga Mandira, the Minister released a handbook on tourism hotspots in the district. He said Uttara Kannada was also included in the Jog Development Authority and the District in-charge Minister of Uttara Kannada was one of the members of the authority, he said. Mr. Kageri said that there were many tourist places in the district and the Tourism Department should highlight them.
Later, cheques were given away by the Tourism Department and HORA organisations to youths belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities to buy autorickshaws.

Deputy Commissioner Inkanglo Jameer, CEO of Zilla Panchayat R.G. Joshi, president of Karwar City Municipal Council Ganapati Ulvekar were present.
