Managalore, November 11: If everything goes by the assurance of External Minister Salman Khurshid, the long-pending demand of Mangaloreans to have a full-fledged passport office will be materialised soon.
The Minister assured the delegation comprising of senior congress leader Oscar Fernandes and AICC Member P V Mohan who called on him at his residence in New Delhi that the existing Passport Seva Kendra of the coastal city would be upgraded.
Mr Fernandes requested the Minister to initiate measures to set up full-fledged passport office at Mangalore for the convenience of the general public of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Uttar Kannada, Kodagu and Shimoga districts.
Mr Fernandes also convinced that the existing Passport Seva Kendra in Mangalore is already handling more than 1.5 lakh applications per year.
