Mangalore, November 17: In a sudden development, the State Government on Friday transferred N S Channappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada among several other senior officers.
The Government has replaced Mr Gowda with N Prakash, who is currently serving as the director of KSRTC (personnel and environment). Mr Gowda is expected to replace his successor.
Mr. Gowda was appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada in May 2011 following the sudden transfer of Subodh Yadav, who had cracked down on illegal sand mining in the coastal district. Before coming to Mangalore, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur district.
Mr. Gowda had played a prominent role in implementing plastic ban in both Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada districts.
“I was DC here for nearly one-and-a-half-year. I had taken up some of the contentious issues,” Mr Gowda said expressing satisfaction about his tenure.
It is learnt that Mr Prakash may take charge as the new DC with a couple of days.
