Mangalore, December 15: The valedictory programme of the 15 day campaign 'Read the Creator's Message' of Universal Welfare Forum (UNIWEF) was held at Shanti Nilaya in Balmatta, Mangalore, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shikarupira Krishnamurthy, Professor in Sanskrit, St Aloysius College, Mangalore, said that in order to judge whether one is a God-fearing person, it is not important to note which religion he has taken birth in but rather look at the character and behaviour of the person. One must inculcate the habit of self-introspection everyday looking at one's own faults and make a pledge that he will be a better person with every new day, he said.
Fr. William Martis, Parish Priest, Udupi Church, in his address said that if one looks at the various religions, he is bound to find a host of similarities. The Abrahamic religions like Islam, Christianity and Judaism have obvious similarities with the same prophets and ancestors. The concept of Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwara of Hinduism and the Christian concept of trinity are also similar. There is a common thread that binds all religions together, he opined. People must adopt the understanding attitude rather than judgemental attitude when it comes to religion, he said.
Rafeeyuddin Kudroli, President, UNIWEF, said in his address that the Vedas may well have been the word of God sent down by the Almighty to guide the people of India and in the same way the Quran was sent down as the final revelation of God. In spite of several years passing by, it continues to remain relevant and unchanged, he said. Mr.Kudroli also spoke about the scientific facts mentioned in the Quran about the planets and the solar system. People must make an attempt to know their respective scriptures and most unrest that takes place in the society today is because of lack of proper understanding of one's own religion, he said.
Dr. J N Bhat, Medical Superintendent, Omega Hospital, also spoke.
A question and answer session was also held after the guests delivered their speeches.
