The protest was organised under the joint auspices of Sayyed Madani Sunni Association Ullal and Ullal Central Committee.
The protesters, who took out a silent march from Kotepur to Melangadi Darga, later submitted a memorandum to Ullal Darga committee.
The protesters were demanding the Darga committee to stop following the orders of outside forces. Their other main demands include that Sayyed Madani Arabic Education Trust should not come under the control of Kerala based Islamic Education Board of India led by A P Aboobakar Usthad.
They were also shouting slogans against groupism and politics in Darga, and imposing Malayalam medium education in Sunni Madrasas of coastal Karnataka.
Addressing the protesters Yusuf Misbahi, imam of Ullal Melangady Masjid warned the Darga committee led by Hamza against handing over the administration of institutions belonging to Sayyed Madani Darga to Kerala based groups.
“We should follow the ideology of Sayyed Madani and avoid groupism. It is our responsibility to protect this community from further partition,” he said.
Member of Ullal Town Municipal Council Abdul Rasheed, Ullal Central Committee President U K Khader, Vice President Muhammad Thwaha, General Secretary U K Ahmed Bava and many others were present in the protest.
