Mangalore, December 17: The district Congress Minority Cell has condemned the attack on Masjids in Kulai, Mukka and Karnad that took place this morning.
Addressing media persons at a press meet at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Monday, Moideen Bawa, President, District Congress Minorities' Cell, said that the attacks have come at a time when Assembly elections are round the corner in the state.
The incidents only go on to show that communal forces want to divide the society and create a tense atmosphere with a view to create vote banks, he said.
Mr. Bawa said that in spite of repeated attempts to create communal tensions by attacking and desecrating places of worship in the last few days, people of the district had been maintaining peace and appealed to the people to continue doing so and not allow any untoward incident to take place. He had met the office bearers of all the three Masjids which were attacked in the morning and appealed them as well as the locals there to maintain peace, he said. The ACP Panambur and Surathkal police who visited the spot have assured that they will arrest the culprits within 24 hours, he revealed.
Installation of CCTV cameras in mosques, churches and temples must be given a thought so that such miscreants are brought to justice, Mr. Bawa opined. An appeal would be made to the Deputy Commissioner of the district as well as the city police commissioner to deploy more policemen in the sensitive areas in and around the city and increase the intensity of police patrolling, he added.
J R Lobo, Former MCC Commissioner, K Ashraf, Former Mayor, were also present.
