Mangalore, December 27: Protest against Delhi gang-rape erupted in Mangalore too on Thursday, with hundreds of students of allied science and physiotherapy colleges along with the college faculties taking out a rally seeking justice for rape victim, who is also a physiotherapy student.
Wearing white aprons with black badges and holding placards and banners, the protesters marched from Jyothi Circle to the office of Deputy Commissioner in the city.
They were shouting slogans like "We want justice," "We need protection," and "It is our duty to promote welfare and respect women". They demanded justice to the victim and stringent punishment to the culprits.
The protesters said that the gruesome case has propelled the issue into national spotlight in Delhi bus gang rape, both the woman and her friend who tried to protect here were thrown out of the moving bus – on the highway of the outskirts of the city, according to court testimony.
The protesters also forwarded a memorandum through district administration to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shindhe, Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes and Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, urging to bring justice to the victim.
