Mangalore, Feb 7: A Thiruvananthapuram bound Air India Express flight from Sharjah was on Wednesday was diverted to Mangalore following a medical emergency to a passenger on board the aircraft.
According to sources, a passenger on board the Air India Express IX 536 flight identified as P B Sabu (44), started vomiting blood mid way through the flight. As the flight was nearing India and Thiruvananthapuram was still a good 45 minutes away, the captain decided to land the aircraft at Mangalore International Airport.
The Air Traffic Control was alerted by the pilot and the flight landed at the airport at 3.45 pm, by which time the doctor on panel of the airport and an ambulance was kept ready. The source added that after the patient was stabilized he was taken to the hospital, where he is in MICU. The aircraft left at 5.20 pm.
The family members of the patient in Thiruvananthapuram have been informed about the incident and they are expected to reach the city on Thursday. Hospital staff said the patient had elevated sugar levels. ``We are monitoring him as he had vomited blood. He is stable as of now,'' the staff said.
