The event was organized on the backdrop of the tragic end of Sneha Upadhyaya, a teenager who resorted to suicide after her bid to procure narcotics failed. The event exposed the gruesome fact of how the teenagers in a city like Mangalore have fallen prey to intoxicating substances.
Through the 'jata' the organization urged the authorities to take note of the alarming situation and act as soon as possible to curb the already grown drug mafia.
“Existence of drug mafia in a place like Mangalore which is called the educational hub is nothing new. Several students have become slaves to intoxicating materials while many have become victims too. Though the district administration and the police are well aware of the undercurrents they have not been able to act effectively. The general public has now started doubting the capabilities of the police department,” the organization said demanding the police and the district administration to bring in stringent measures to completely curb the drug mafia.
The organization said that the authorities must hold meeting with student leaders and college representatives to figure out ways to control the drug menace in the campuses. Special task force for the issue and starting a separate toll free number were some of the suggestions given by the organization.
District President Imran Thumbe, State Committee Member Iqbal among others were present.
