Mangalore, Feb 11: Main Line container vessel of M/s Pacific International Lines (PIL) – M.V. Hans Pepenburg from East Africa (Port Matwara) called at New Mangalore Port on Monday.
This is the third main line vessel which called at the Port during the current financial year. The vessel commenced its operation of unloading 247 boxes of raw cashew for distribution among various cashew processing units situated in and around Mangalore.
The vessel while sailing back to East Africa enroute Singapore will load 250 TEUs of export containers with cargoes like fishmeal, fish oil, granite, plywood, etc. towards Far East, China, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Korea, Africa etc. This is the highest export any main line vessel loading at New Mangalore Port. The vessel will also load 200 empty containers.
The advantage of Main Line vessel directly calling at the Port is the reduced transit time and economical handling cost. The voyage from East Africa to Mangalore will be only 9-10 days whereas vessels via Colombo will take 28 days.
Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman stated that this is the result of NMPT's marketing efforts. “From a humble beginning with 1 vessel during 2007-08, now it is the 31st Main Line vessel calling at the Port” he added. M/s Seamaster Shipping Logistics (Seaways group) are the agents of the vessel and M/s Delta Marine Logistics, Ltd, the Stevedores.
