Bangalore: Feb 12: Home Minister R Ashoka told the Assembly on Monday?that the government would set up a special cell to check drug peddling and book the culprits under the Goonda Act.
He was replying to the allegation by Congress MLA Narendra Babu that though the government had done away with hookah bars, it was oblivious to the trend of youngsters smoking hookah in cars.
Participating in a discussion on drug peddling activities in Bangalore and the coastal districts, Babu said hookah cars were being operated in Kamalanagar and other parts in the City. He said the police department was not even aware of the switch in trend.
He demanded that the department immediately look into this aspect, as it had failed to address the problem in its entirety.
“The department may have ordered closure of hookah bars, but scores of youngsters are now found smoking up in cars,” he said.
Home Minister R Ashoka said: “We have removed all hookah bars,” he said.
