
Mangalore, Feb 14: There was not much of enthusiasm among the lovers on the Valentine's Day today as the celebrations turned dull with love birds staying away from major parks in Mangalore following threats from right wing groups.
Hardly a few young unmarried couple were seen at Kadri and Tagore and other parks of the city.
Thanks to extra precautionary measures from the police department, Valentine's Day celebrations in the city were largely peaceful without any untoward incident.
Additional police personnel were deployed at different parts of the city, especially along the prominent beaches around the city where people gathered in large numbers.
The anti-Valentine's Day campaign of Hindutva outfits like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal was confined to a protests and detonations.
The city police had also reportedly warned Bajrang Dal and other organizations not to take law into their hands.
Taking a cue from earlier incidents, hotels and restaurants in the city too refrained from celebrations. However, some hotels had reportedly arranged candle light dinners for love birds.
