Kasargod, Apr 21: A five-day beach festival 'Summer Claps – 2013', the first such event to take place on the picturesque Bekal Fort beach situated in Kasargod district, was organised by the Kasargod district Department of Tourism and Bekal Venture, in association with Bekal Resorts Development Corporation Limited (BRDC).
On the idlyllic beach of Bekal Fort, the beach festival included many attractions and adventurous events for people of all ages.
Organised on the lines of the popular Panambur beach festival held annually in Mangalore, a kite festival was organised from noon to evening at the beach on Sunday, in which teams from Mangalore and Gujarat participated.
Apart from this, the festival included various attractions for the open public such helicopter ride, and adventure and water sports such as parasailing, jet-ski ride, boating, banana boats and ringo boats during the entire duration of the fest.
As part of the beach festival, a unique motorsport racing competition titled 'Mahindra Adventure Bekal 4x4' was organised by Indian Motor Sports Club (IMSC) on Saturday on the sandy shores of Bekal beach.
Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Musa Sherif, organiser of IMSC, said that it was the first time that a 4x4 event had been organised on the shores of a beach.
As many as 28 teams participated in the event that was held on Saturday. Few teams had come to participate in the event from as far as Kottayam and Cochin in Kerala, and Bangalore, Chikmagalur and Coorg in Karnataka, he said.
Naushad was declared the winner of the competition, while Shafi and M F Kapil were awarded the runner-up and second runner-up respectively.
