Mangalore, May 26: Pushparaj Jain of Abish Builders was formally installed as the new president of the Mangalore chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI) at a formal programme in the city.
He took charge as the fourth president of the organisation for the term 2013-15. The outgoing president P M A Razak of Plama Developers Ltd handed over the presidentship to Pushparaj Jain.
On the occasion, D B Mehta took charge as the new vice-president of CREDAI – Mangalore, Ganesh Bangera as the general secretary, Srinath Hebbar as joint-secretary and Vinod A R Pinto as the treasurer. Members of the new governing body K C Naik, S M Arshad, William D'Souza, Dheeral Amin, Siraj Ahmed, Roham Monteiro and Sanath Kumar Shetty also took charge at the programme.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr Razak said that about 68 per cent growth in the GDP in South Canara is entirely due to the private housing sector here. "Although the housing sector is the largest contributor of skilled employment in the country, our problems and concerns are not addressed by politicians. The private housing sector needs backing from the government which is not being provided. The sector needs support from the government to provide affordable housing to the poor," he said.
The newly-installed president Pushparaj Jain said, "To acquire self-ability, it is important to win the hearts of people, as one cannot achieve anything alone. Various opportunities have come my way, which need to be realised in the future.”
He said that the organisation will work towards providing quality houses to people.
“There is a need for builders to have social responsibility, along with business interests. About 40 per cent of people in the district do not have a roof over their head. It will be our endeavour to provide affordable housing to the less privileged section of the society, which will be possible if the government co-operates with the builders. Joint ventures with the government can help provide affordable housing to the people,” he said.
Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel also spoke on the occasion.
The past presidents of CREDAI Mangalore were felicitated on the occasion.
