Speaking at a felicitation programme for newly elected MLAs and ministers organized by South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank, Mr. Patil said that a full fledged IT park will be set up in Mangalore. This will change the misconception that IT and BT is the monopoly of Bangalore, the minister said.
Oscar Fernandes, Rajya Sabha MP, said in his presidential address that the Congress party has in its election manifesto made promises to uplift the co-operative sector and provision of loans at lesser interest rates.
The newly elected MLAs and ministers from the region must bear this in mind and discuss the same prior to budget formation for the year which will begin in July, he said.
M N Rajendra Kumar, President, South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank, urged the newly elected MLAs and ministers on the occasion to come to the aid of areca growers of the district.
“The government has banned gutka but from past experience I can say that it does not cause major harm to areca growers. Still, I would request the newly elected people's representatives and ministers to come to the aid of areca growers of the district in times of need”, he said.
