He was chairing a review meeting held at the MUDA office on Monday.
When Guruprasad, Town Planning Officer, revealed that 12 colonies were given green signal by the MUDA under MCC limits, J R Lobo, MLA, Mangalore South, took objection and said that construction of colonies by MUDA in Jappinamogaru and other private colonies has failed miserably, to which the Minister issued this order.
The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to initiate an independent probe into the purchase of land at double its cost for construction of residential colonies in Chelyaru and Madya.
Mr. Lobo asked the official concerned of MUDA as to what was the need to purchase land at double its price and as to whether a Demand Survey had been conducted prior to taking such a step. Even after seven years of procurement of land in Konaje, no development has taken place, the MLA further groused.
Moideen Bawa, MLA, Mangalore North, also pointed out that the cost of land in the areas in question were not Rs.25,000 per cent. The rates were needlessly raised and an undue favour was done to others, he said.
Monappa Bhandary, MLC, M C Renuka Prasad, MUDA Commissioner, Srikanth Rao, MCC Commissioner, were present.
