Mangalore, Sep 10: Besant First Grade Evening College, Mangalore will be organising a UGC-sponsored national seminar on'Effective Partnerships between Commercial banks and Micro-finance Institutions' in the college auditorium on Thursday, said principal of the college Dr Carmelita Goveas.
Speaking at a press meet here on Tuesday, she said that the seminar is aimed at students who pursue professional courses such as chartered accounting and other courses. The objective of the seminar is to provide a common platform to students, academicians, bankers, micro-finance institutions and NGOs involved in micro-finance for discussion and debate on the main theme, and to examine the outreach and sustainability of micro-finance institutions. About 200 delegates are expected for the seminar, she said.
The seminar will be inaugurated by General Manager of Corporation Bank V S Karthikeyan. Dr A Krishna Reddy of Sa-dhan, Hyderabad will deliver the keynote address on the occasion. Session on'Potential of commercial banks as large-scale providers of finance' and'Sustainability and pitfalls of existing micro-finance institutions' will be conducted in the seminar, she said.
The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to be held at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday.
