The post of the President was reserved for SC woman and hence the position fell into hands of Vasanthi, who is the only SC woman in the Council.
However, though the post of the Vice-President was reserved for woman (general) and despite having four contenders for the post, later on all the members unanimously elected Yasmeen to the post. SDPI backed Mumtaz who had filed her nomination, later withdrew, paving way for Yasmeen's unanimous election to the post.
Taluk Tahshildar Malleswami was the election officer.
District in-charge Minister and Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai congratulated the winners and said that the newly elected chief and second-in-command have to face several challenges and still excel in implementing the various schemes of the government. He urged all the members of the Council to work in unity.
He said that the second phase of the drinking water project will be approved by the government soon. Bus stand work, construction of Ranga Mandira and waste disposal unit will have to start soon.
