Mangalore, Sep 16: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Forum Against Atrocities on Women and Dalit Sangharsha Samiti have demanded fresh probe into the case and stern action against Mangalore South Assistant Commissioner of Police T R Jagannath who had allegedly harassed his female sub-ordinate, Shreekala, according to a complaint she had submitted to the Police Commissioner and direction by court.
Vidya Dinaker of Forum Against Atrocities on Women speaking in a press meet here on Monday said that as a result of protest by organisations the Commissioner formed a committee to inquire into sexual harassment case filed by ASI Shreekala against Assistant Commissioner of Police TR Jaganath. Since committee members were evidently not aware of laws pertaining to workplace harassment, the inquiry was biased.
"Since victim has not received justice she had moved to third JMFC court in Mangalore on September 7. Court directed women's police station to file a FIR against the ACP. After raising voice against sexual harassment Shreekala is being harassed by the department to the extent that a constable from Dalit community has been made to file an atrocity case against her," she said.
On the backdrop of the Chief Minister of the state assuring people of transferring police officials who have been serving in one place for more than three years, she said that the tainted police official has been serving in one place over the last several years.
