She said that while the Delhi gang-rape victim has been given justice, the Saujanya murder case has not been given justice yet. The student was abused and made to death in Belthangady and what is disheartening is the fact that law is being used as per convenience here.
She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a protest staged by
Akhila Bharatha Janatavadi Mahila Sanghatane and DYFI Belthangady unit, demanding handing over of Saujanya murder case to CBI and also demanding probe in to several other cases of suspicious death of women in the region. The protest was held outside Taluk Office premises.
"The women are being subjected to atrocities in the name of caste, religion and dress code. The nation's capital New Delhi ranks first in atrocities against women and Karnataka stands second. It is sad that DK district ranks first in the state when we talk of atrocities on women. The ones who are making hue and cry over Delhi gang-rape are not uttering a word about Saujanya murder case," she lamented and demanded CBI probe into the case.
DYFI State President N L Bharathraj said that if the Saujanya murder case is not handed over to the CBI then a protest will be staged on October 9 in Mangalore. The next step will be to stage a stir outside Home Minister's office.
Still have hopes
However, Saujanya's family are still hopeful that they will be given justice. "My daughter lost her life at the hands of some demons a year ago. The police have failed to nab the culprits so far. The probe too has stopped half way through. The accused were sentenced in the Delhi gang-rape but Saujanya's murder case has remained unsolved. But, despite all this I am hopeful that we will get justice one day," said Kusuma, Saujanya's mother.
